NIZWA: Harvesting operations for the current agricultural season's wheat crop have commenced in the villages of the Wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
Eng Zaher bin Abdullah al Busaidy, Director of Agriculture and Water Resources Department in Nizwa, stated that the number of farms participating in wheat production this year has exceeded 50, covering total areas of more than 40 acres distributed across the various villages of the Wilayat. The village of Tanuf stands at the forefront of wheat-producing villages.
Regarding production expectations for this season, Al Busaidy indicated that output may exceed 50 tonnes of wheat grain, despite forecasts suggesting a decline in production compared to previous years due to lower water table levels.
Meanwhile, Al Busaidy confirmed a growing trend among young people toward investing in fruit farms, noting the successful cultivation of figs, vines and grapes, which has contributed to supplying local markets with high-quality products. — ONA
